Ethics and Legality of Teachers Pay Teachers

The site, Teachers Pay Teachers, appears to observe the ethical standards and legality of copyright law. At first glance, I was skeptical of the site due to it claiming to be an online marketplace the enables teachers to purchase and sell original downloadable educational materials. However, upon further exploration of the “About us” page, I learned that users express themselves originally in their products and never use media they aren’t sure they have the right to use. The site also provides an extensive explanation of the copyright policy it has adopted in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other applicable laws. Teachers Pay Teachers blocks access to or removes materials that are believed to be infringing upon a copyrighted work. The site has designated an agent to handle copyright infringement claims and provides the agent’s contact information as well as an outline of copyright policy. In concluding my evaluation, I ran the site URL through the Whois.com Lookup. The results generated by my lookup seem to only further support the authenticity of this site. These results can be viewed below.

Research Questions: How have technological advancements affected the dynamics of communication?

As a nanny I constantly strive to communicate more effectively with the children I watch and often observe new communication behaviors that seem to be linked to the digital age. There is only a ten-year variance between the times they are growing up in and the times I grew up in but the differences are utterly fascinating. Children today, are using technology more than any other generation before. In a world of eBooks, iTunes, search engines and cellphones the way kids communicate, relate and interact with one another is undeniably evolving.

As I began researching the connection between technological advancement and the changing dynamics of communication, I discovered that educators have high hopes for implementing technology as a learning tool especially in the field of science. I also found that technological innovations are increasing standards of living in some ways but lowering standards of living in others. There is a disconnection between human values and the values of technology. Human values are shaped primarily by human memories, while the values of technological advancements are shaped largely by possibilities. This could lead to issues in the future as technology continues to engulf humanity.
