Sarah Farson-March 6—Exercise-Securing Information

Evaluation of My Computer Security Practices

After reading the articles assigned for this week, it has come to my attention that I exercise terrible computer security practices. I had no idea it was so dangerous to use the same password over and over again but it totally makes sense to me now that I think about it. I always try to use a combination of numbers along with uppercase and lowercase letters when creating a password. However, I had never considered the fact that most people probably put capital letters at the beginning of a password and numbers at the end.

The article by Mat Honan reassured me that there is some level of refuge in the iCloud. Though I do plan to use the computer security practice tips I have read about nonetheless. I will start backing up my computer and cellphone regularly. I plan to generate an original password for each account I create, especially the ones containing sensitive information. When I craft these passwords I am going to break my habit of using a capital letter at the beginning of the password and a number sequence at the end. Instead, I will attempt to construct passwords of a higher complexity.
